It’s time to change the way you travel with more bus, rail, tram, cycling and walking and less car use …….. but why?
Mainly the climate imperative and transport is the area we are not doing well in. Getting an electric car will help, but also we need more people choosing to use public transport, cycle and walk for more of their journeys if we are to meet our net zero obligation. Your individual action will make a difference.
The Government wants to transform the role of cycling and walking in England and has articulated a vision for this:
‘England will be a great walking and cycling nation’
Places will be truly walkable. A travel revolution in our streets, towns and communities will have made cycling a mass form of transit. Cycling and walking will be the natural first choice for many journeys with half of all journeys in towns and cities being cycled or walked by 2030. (Gear change, Department for Transport, 2020)
