Cheddar Village boasts a wide range of local facilities within a reasonable walking or cycling distance from Mendip View , making it self‐contained and minimizing the need to travel by car to destinations outside of the town.

Walking
Walking is one of the cheapest, easiest and simplest forms of transport, which is boosted by there being a wide range of shops and services accessible within a short walk from the development.
Cheddar offers several walking routes of varying difficulties starting form the village centre. Cheddar Walking provides downloadable maps of various walks in and around the Village as well as news on local information and travel
U3A (University of the Third Are) is a UK wide initiative that brings togther people in their third age to develop thier interests. The Cheddar Valley U3A Walking Group offer a range of walking activities for different levels of fitness. Details of how to join can be found on their website of by clicking this link.
The Mendip Ramblers meet for regular walks for a range of distances and capabilities in and around the Mendip and surrounding areas. You can join to become a Rambler to help continue the charitable work they do in protecting Britain’s footpaths and promote walking.
Walking is great exercise and most of all it is free! Walking, even for ten minutes a day can contribute to looking and feeling great. Regular walking can reduce blood pressure, lower cholesterol, tones up muscles and can strengthen bones. It is excellent for losing weight or simply improving fitness levels through low impact and low intensity exercise.

Cycling
Cycling is great for the environment. It helps you to avoid traffic and congestion, as well as reducing fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
The NCN 26 Strawberrry Line runs along the western boundary of the Site in a north-south alignment. The route if off-road and traffic free and runs from Yatton to Cheddar.
Cheddar Valley Leisure Cycling is a small informal group who meet reularly to cycle twice a week throughout the year. They arrange cycle rides with a stop for refreshments and a chat! These rides ten to be under 20 miles. Visit their page here for more information on how to join.
Cycling UK is an online platform that provides insurance, access to cycle magazine, group rides, retail discounts and more, for a small fee. It provides advice and guidance to those new to cycling or looking to gain some more confidence when commuting or leisure riding. It aims to make cycling accessible to all.
Cheddar Bikes located on Lower North Street in Cheddar provides cycle repair workshops, bike sales as well useful information relating to bike maintenance.

Bus
Bus services provide the closest form of local public transport providing connections to Bridgewater and Weston-super-Mare as well as surrounding towns.
The nearest bus stops are located approximately 500 metres to the east of the site on The Barrows, which provides access to both northbound and southbound services.

Train
The closest train station is the Yatton Railway Station which lies approximately 10 miles north of Cheddar offering frequent services to Bristol, Cardiff, Taunton and Weston-super-Mare where further connections can be made.
Rail fares can vary significantly, however, booking in advance makes rail travel cheaper. There are a number of memberships and rail cards available that can help reduce the cost.

Electric Vehicles
Electric vehicles and (EVs) and plug in hybrid vehicles are becoming increasingly popular and growing at a rapid rate in the UK. According to Zapmap there are just under 1,400,000 fully electric cars in the UK at the end of January 2025. The number of charging points is growing rapidly. At the end of January 2025, there were 74,611 electric vehicle charging points across the UK.
In 2024 there were 381,970 new fully electric cars sold, which was 19.6% market share of all new cars registered that year. More fully electric cars were sold in 2024 than any other and represented 21% more than in 2023.
